
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Narula Institute of Technology hosted the inauguration of the IEEE CIS (Computational Intelligence Society) student chapter under the Institute’s student branch on September 25, 2024, in association with Times of India.
The event started with a warm welcome address and felicitation of the esteemed guests by Dr. Soumen Banerjee, the Principal, Dr. Nidhi Singh, the Registrar, Dr. Sourav Saha, the Dean of Research & Development, and Dr. Subhram Das, the Head of the Dept. of CSE of Narula Institute of Technology.
Dr. Tridibesh Nag, Secretary of the IEEE Kolkata Section, is an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering at Netaji Subhas Engineering College, Kolkata. He provided valuable insights into the various facilities, technical societies, and councils under IEEE, including the IEEE Spectrum. He also discussed the support processes for registration and travel allowances available through the IEEE student chapter.
Dr. Anirban Mukhopadhyay, Vice-Chair of IEEE CIS Kolkata Section and Professor, of Computer Science and Engineering, University of Kalyani, delivered a talk on "AI & ML: Foundations and Real-World Applications." He inspired the students by highlighting the pervasive role of artificial intelligence and machine learning in everyday life.
The next speaker was Dr. Kartick Chandra Mondal, Assistant Professor in the Department of Information Technology, Jadavpur University, Kolkata. His "Computational Biodiversity Analysis" lecture motivated students to harness their technical skills and innovation to solve real-world problems. He also emphasized the importance of networking and collaboration within the IEEE community.
The seminar saw enthusiastic participation from more than 200 students across various disciplines and membership certificates were distributed among active IEEE student members. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Subhram Das. Dr. Pushpita Roy, the counselor of the IEEE student branch of Narula Institute of Technology coordinated the whole program and other faculty members attended the event, contributing to its success.
